BIP - RoboCam 2026

The aim is to develop a collaborative project to control simple robots equipped with a camera to make them able to play a simple version of soccer. Several engineering expertise are required to understand functionalities of the devices (e.g. PWM, SPI, object tracking, motor control, A/D Conversion, etc.) that have been already acquired during the bachelor courses, but also new computer vision and machine learning approaches will be studied autonomously. Programming skills and capabilities to interact with new hardware devices are required.

During the virtual phase, students will form interdisciplinary teams to integrate the new expertise
required by the project and the teams will collaborate to identify navigation problems and most
successful approaches to win the game. The virtual component will consist in courses on how to
program in Python and use it with the various components of the robot (camera – for viewing the
environment, gyroscopic sensor – for determining position, how the wheels turn for movement or
changing direction, etc.).

By integrating virtual and in person learning, students will develop practical expertise in applying
different strategies and exploiting knowledge from different fields to optimize navigation.
Interdisciplinary groups will be promoted to favour the enrichment of personal knowledge.
