Visiting professors

"A Visiting Professor is a high scientific and/or professional personality, belonging to foreign universities, institutions, companies or research entities. He holds teaching positions at the University of Pavia or is assigned co-teaching roles, modules, lecture series, seminars or other curricular or supplementary educational activities within a study program offered by UNIPV."

The University of Pavia is pleased to host professors from all over the world for a teaching period, because we recognize the invaluable role of internationalisation in enriching our educational offerings. We also believe that welcoming teaching staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences enriches the learning environment for our students and fosters a dynamic exchange of perspectives, leading to a more inclusive and globally aware academic community.

How to be welcomed as a Visiting Professor

Becoming a Visiting Professor at our institution is possible only by invitation. Therefore, if you do not have a contact person yet, in order to facilitate your invitation process we recommend that you find an appropriate contact by visiting unipv.unifind.cineca.it

Once you have identified the staff member you would like to interact with, please send her/him an email including your CV (Curriculum Vitae/Resumé) to demonstrate your area of expertise and how an exchange would benefit both universities.

After making arrangements with the appropriate staff member, please follow the specific application procedure described in the sections relating to the projects currently underway.

CURRENTLY OPEN PROJECTS

Listed below are the projects currently underway at the University of Pavia. These projects, part of our efforts in the process of internationalisation and enhancement of our educational offerings, showcase the academic work our institution supports and reflect our commitment to advancing research and innovation.

ERASMUS+ PROGRAM KA131

Professors coming to University of Pavia through the Erasmus+ program KA131 needs to find a hosting professor at the University of Pavia and agree with him/her a suitable teaching program and a feasible time frame for the visit.

It's important to proceed as follows:

  1. Identify the department and the Professor who will become your Reference Professor.
    The staff contact details are available HERE;
  2. Email the Professor, including a CV, to show the area of expertise and how an exchange would benefit both universities.
  3. Agree the Erasmus+ Mobility Agreement for teaching.
    The professor will consider how the visit fits with their plan of work and academic timetables. If the professor can host you and you have found a suitable time, the department will sign the form;
  4. Contact the Internatinal Relations office of the University of Pavia by writing an email to [email protected] to communicate the period and the name of the UniPV Professor in charge of the mobility.

The Erasmus+ Grant will be paid by the sending University.
Professors coming to University of Pavia through the Erasmus+ program must contact the International Relations Office of their own University to know the procedure to apply and receive the Erasmus Grant for mobility for teaching.

Please note that, by the side of UniPV, the Mobility Agreement and any further Erasmus documentation has to be signed by the UniPV professor in charge of the mobility.

Once you have been selected as a Visiting Professor, in order to receive a formal invitation and be provided with key documents and services, you must register your data in the Visiting Staff application portal

Please be aware that the application on the platform is only possible after contacting a Reference Professor and confirming a visiting period at the University of Pavia. Without completing these preliminary steps, the application will be rejected.

ACCEPTANCE LETTER

If your application is successful, you will receive an official acceptance letter, which you must always carry with you to ensure access to certain services.

MANDATORY IN-PERSON CHECK-IN

Before arriving in Pavia, you should write an email to your Department contact in order to schedule the mandatory in-person check-in, which must take place upon your arrival.

The check-in, held at your Host Department, will officially start your stay and activate the services you are entitled to.

ERASMUS+ PROGRAM KA171 (ICM)

The person in charge of the mobility at the sending University will communicate the names of the selected teachers to University of Pavia, by sending an email to [email protected].

The University of Pavia will directly contact the selected Professors to explain the procedure to follow.

UNIPV Departments that offer English-taught Master's degree programs annually invite a number of adjunct Visiting Professors to teach within these programs.

The invitation is based on the available budget and subject to the approval of the University's Evaluation Committee, with the professors signing a contract for curricular teaching.

Invited professors are typically international or Italian academics holding positions at foreign universities, or international or Italian professionals affiliated with foreign institutions and research centres.

The University of Pavia annually invites a number of adjunct Visiting Professors who are international or Italian academics holding positions at universities in the USA. 

The invitation depends on the available budget and is subject to the approval of the University's Evaluation Committee, which pays particular attention to the ranking of the American university the Visiting Professor is affiliated with.

Invited professors are required to sign a contract for curricular, supplementary or seminar teaching. Please note that seminar teaching does not qualify as an adjunct professor position.

The aim is not only to promote the internationalisation of our teaching activities but also to implement joint projects between UNIPV and the American university, such as double degree agreements, joint internship activities, student mobility agreements or international cooperation agreements.

Summer&Winter Schools are high-quality intensive courses organised by UNIPV in collaboration with academics or professionals affiliated with foreign universities, institutions or research centres. Half of the school’s teaching staff must meet these criteria to ensure an international environment and, in most cases, the use of a language other than Italian.

The schools, with a maximum duration of four weeks, are organised in various fields and are preferably interdisciplinary. 

They are intended for different types of participants (post-graduate and PhD students, researchers, professionals and public or private employees) and they can assign training credits (ECTS) to be recognized in post-graduate study programs or for continuing education.
