Description:

The SumHEIs project addresses the following priorities:

  • Open and innovative educational practices in a digital area
  • Promoting internationalization
  • Addressing gaps and imbalances between demand and supply of skills

One often overlooked way in which universities or research institutes and associations can increase student recruitment is through summer schools. A fundamental part of the university experience is the location and culture, and one thing that many graduate students are actually quite eager to revisit is places they may have spent time in previously. Studying internationally, especially for an entire degree or postgraduate course, can be a daunting and exhilarating prospect. For many students, it might be the first time away from family and friends, not to mention away from their home country. Short-term programs allow potential candidates to experience a new place and teaching method in a comfortable and time-limited environment, without the pressure of committing to a full degree. This is a fantastic way for them to be engaged and exposed to university culture and to promote your university campus.

When running a Summer School program, universities must ensure to highlight the real benefits of what a summer program could offer to potential students. By discovering what students from different countries are looking for, they can tailor their courses and marketing.

Institutions may also focus on the cultural aspect, adventure, and any language skills they may be able to develop by studying in the city and country where the institute is located for this period of time.
