The University of Pavia European Student Card

The European Student Card is your digital gateway to seamless access to student services and mobility opportunities across Europe.
As part of the University of Pavia community, you can benefit from this innovative tool — from verifying your student status abroad to accessing services at participating institutions throughout the EU.
The European Student Card allows you to access a range of services and advantages at participating universities and institutions across Europe — over 500 institutions in 36 countries are already part of the initiative.
Once fully implemented, the European Student Card will help simplify many administrative and student life procedures when studying or attending activities in other European higher education institutions that are part of the ESC system.
Depending on each institution’s setup, your ESC may allow access to services such as libraries, sports centers, University canteens, cultural events, student discounts, and more.
It can also serve as an official student ID during Erasmus exchanges or other academic mobility programs.
At the moment, the University of Pavia will continue to use the UniPv Smart Card to access internal campus services and facilities. However, you can already activate and present the European Student Card when visiting hosting institutions that support the system.

The ESC is your gateway to on- and off- campus services by affirming your student status recognition at other universities around the EU.
You may be able to:
- use your student card while studying abroad without needing to get a new student card from your host institution
- more easily access student services during your mobility
- experience gain a “European Student” status
Please be aware that:
- The European Student Card is now available for Erasmus+ Students for study and for traineeship hosted by a European Institution awarded by ECHE.
- This is still an experimental project and not all EU HEIs are now accepting the European Students Card.
🔗 Before starting your Erasmus journey, please check with your Host Institution what are the conditions and services offered for you through ESC. Check the list of Universities that are accepting the ESC here.
At the University of Pavia, the ESC is a virtual card which is issued at the time of your nomination as an erasmus student to any European Institution.
🔗This enhanced version includes a European Student Card Number (ESCN), embedded as a QR code and registered on the ESC digital platform.
The ESCN is used to confirm your student status and generate a European Student Identifier (ESI), which is based on your UNIPV matriculation number.
🔗 UNIPV is among the first universities in Europe to implement the ESC, through its active participation in European Student Card Initiative projects.
The European Student Card is issued only to students selected for an Erasmus+ mobility period abroad, following their acceptance by the host institution.
How to receive your ESC issued by the University of Pavia
- Be selected for Erasmus+ mobility
You must be selected by UNIPV to take part in an Erasmus+ study or traineeship mobility with a EU Higher Education Institution.
- Wait for acceptance from the host institution
🔗 Once your nomination is accepted by the receiving university, your mobility details are confirmed in your personal dashboard on Mobility Online.
- Automatic generation of the ESC
🔗 After confirmation, your European Student Card is automatically created and made available at the dedicated website by enterning with your UNIPV credentials.
